A "paddle" whipping. Brothers in the various fraternities [Alpha, Omegas, Kappas, Sigmas] should find this image......interesting. Notice the holes in the paddle [which helped to rip flesh], and the pole used to control the victim, who is already hog-tied. The caption reads: a common form of whipping!

Holes in a paddle like that aren't, and never were, added to tear flesh. Their purpose is to lower resistance so that the object can be swung harder.
